Meet the doctors

Dr. Nelson grew up in a small town in southwestern Kansas and received her undergraduate education at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas. After getting married and moving to Oklahoma, she completed her optometric education at  Northeastern State University's College of Optometry in 2020.

 

While completing her degree, Dr. Nelson won awards in clinical excellence in 2019 and 2020, the Chester Phieffer Project Award in Comprehensive Eye Care for her research in macular pigments and recognition for her work in specialty contact lens fits from the Southwest Contact Lens Society. She was a member of Beta Sigma Kappa, the National Honor Society for Optometric Physicians.

Dr. Nelson started working at Bixby Vision Clinic as a technician in 2013, well before she was an Optometrist. She is thankful for the Bixby community and says that coming back to work at
Bixby Vision Clinic after graduation felt like coming home.

Dr. Nelson is an early bird that enjoys her mornings spent at the gym with her husband. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening and spending time family and friends.

 Dr. Ward attended Oklahoma State University before being accepted to Northeastern State University's College of Optometry, receiving his
Doctorate of Optometry in 1983. He has been in private practice with Bixby Vision Clinic since 1983.​

Dr. Ward takes pride in having served his patients for nearly 39 years; many patients are now 2nd or 3rd generation patients! It has been an honor to serve all patients for such a long career. Dr. Ward strives to give everyone a hometown service while maintaining new technologies, providing up-to-date Optometric services for all patients.

Dr. Ward and his wife, Brenda, have raised three girls in Bixby and watched them graduate from Bixby High School. He now enjoys his free time with his wife, 3 daughters and sons-in-law, and 7 grandchildren. Dr. Ward and Brenda enjoy traveling and enjoying their grandchildren's activities. Dr. Ward still enjoys cycling, golf, and yardwork when time allows.
